According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), January is one of the most dangerous months for Carbon Monoxide (CO) poisoning.
 
CO is an odorless, colorless gas. This "silent killer" is found in fumes produced by furnaces, vehicles, portable generators, stoves, lanterns, gas ranges, or burning wood in a fireplace. CO can accumulate in buildings, garages, or any enclosed or partially enclosed areas and poison anyone inside.

You can help Prevent Carbon Monoxide Exposure with these tips from the CDC:
 

• Hire a qualified contractor to annually service all heating systems, water heaters and any other gas, oil, or solid fuel burning appliances.
  
•  Install CO detectors; check or replace the battery as recommended by the manufacturer.
•  Leave immediately and call 911 if a CO detector ever sounds.
•  Never leave a motor running in a vehicle parked in an enclosed or partially enclosed space, such as a garage.
•  Never run a generator, pressure washer, or any gasoline-powered engine inside a basement, garage, or other enclosed structure, even if the doors or windows are open, unless the equipment/area is professionally installed and vented.
